Dharmendra (1935-2025) — A Final Farewell to Bollywood’s ‘He-Man’

Mumbai, November 25 – A Legend Passes On

Veteran actor Dharmendra, affectionately known as Bollywood’s “He-Man,” passed away on Monday, 24 November 2025, at the age of 89.
His death marks the end of an era in Indian cinema, leaving behind a towering legacy spanning over six decades.

Final Days & Health Update

Earlier this month, Dharmendra was discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on 12 November after a critical stay, and was believed to be recovering at home. However, sources had earlier indicated that his condition had been serious, including a period under life-support.
He would have celebrated his 90th birthday on 8 December.

Career & Legacy

Dharmendra starred in over 300 films, ranging from romantic hits to action blockbusters. Notable works include classics such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke and many more that defined Bollywood’s golden era. His rugged physique, natural charm and emotional depth made him a beloved figure across generations.
His last outing was in the 2024 film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and he was associated with the upcoming war-drama Ikkis.

Final Rites & Industry Mourning

Dharmendra’s final rites were conducted at the Pawan Hans Crematorium, Vile Parle, Mumbai, where family members and several Bollywood stalwarts paid their respects.
The film industry responded with an outpouring of tributes. Among them:

  • Shah Rukh Khan called him “nothing short of a father figure” and affirmed, “You are immortal… your soul will live through your films.”
  • Amitabh Bachchan wrote: “…another valiant Giant has left us … the largeness of his heart, and its most endearing simplicity.”
  • Narendra Modi remembered his humility and warmth, saying: “The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema.”

What He Leaves Behind

Dharmendra’s departure leaves a void not easily filled. He was not only a performer but a symbol of an era—one where action heroes had heart, simplicity was part of their charm, and humility came as naturally as charisma.
His films will continue to live on, his dialogues will be quoted, and his persona will inspire future generations of actors and audiences alike.

A Lasting Tribute

As the nation mourns, we remember Dharmendra for his biggest gift: his ability to make us believe in larger-than-life heroes without losing their human heart.
May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.
